The route
Rouen is a magnificent city in Normandy, located on the lower reaches of the Seine River.
Gothic Athens offers great street fishing opportunities, but requires some preparation. In particular, the influence of the tide on the course must be taken into account.
The current can be powerful, and a good pair of boots will allow you to fish well without getting your feet full of mud on certain banks at low tide.

Use Géoportail or google maps to locate areas where you can park and access the riverbank. Some silted-up, delicate banks can be dangerous. Don't enter areas that seem loose, slippery or unstable!
Upstream and downstream of Rouen, there's plenty of opportunity for street fishing, with numerous accessible docks, quays and bridge piers.
Good fishing spots
As is often the case on this type of deep course with its powerful current, the baits and structures hold back a fair number of fish. Lacroix Island is a very popular spot, as it breaks the current.
The right bank of the Quai du Prè-aux-Loups offers some good positions between the barges and the stormwater network inlets.
Special features of the route
As already mentioned, the tide influences the power and direction of the current.
You'll need to adapt your fishing to the water level.

At low tide, a good pair of boots will enable you to walk on the silted-up banks.
You'll also need a landing net with a long or even very long handle, as direct access to the water of the Seine is not easy.
Another unusual feature is the very large number of Melanotus ides, a characteristic of this route.
Dominant species
- Ide mélanote
- Pike-perch
- Perch
Techniques to adapt and lures to use
Small crankbaits with long bibs are ideal for stalking the ide melanote. In turbid, sediment-laden waters, white lures give consistent results.

For percids such as pike-perch, which are very common, and perch, heavy drop shots or Texas rigs allow you to fish insistently close to the bottom without getting hooked too often.
Tips and tricks for success
During low or high water slack periods, when the current is fairly weak, you can take advantage of this to fish directly on the Seine and try to catch a big pike-perch. When the current is stronger, aim upstream or downstream of the island, at structures and bridge piers that break the current and concentrate the fish.
