Course
The Maine River in Angers offers a course that could be classed as a "school" course for street fishing.
It offers an alternation of bridge piers, beaches, quays and a marina with numerous barges...
The current varies according to the area fished, and you have to adapt constantly.

Further upstream, old wooden piles serve as parking areas for numerous boats.
Hot spot
Downstream of the Pont de Verdun and the current acceleration below are renowned for perch and asp.
A few pike and barbel also patrol the powerful veins.
Be careful, as the post is very overgrown with boulders.

A little further downstream, the basse chaine bridge is also well known, but locals say it's better for pike-perch stalking in winter. The very deep, hollow areas and the cushions created by the bridge piers provide an ideal hunting ground for this large percid.
A few catfish are also present in the same areas.
Special features
A wide range of species can be tracked on this course.
Nevertheless, the Maine River remains capricious and fishing is far from easy.

This could almost be seen as a peculiarity, but there are very few chub on this route, and they are virtually absent.
Dominant species
- Poles
- Aspes
- Pikelets
- Pike-perch
- Catfish
Suitable techniques & preferred lures
Slow fishing with drop shots or light, anti-hook rigs with Texas hooks is ideal for stalking perch.
Don't hesitate to fish heavy (a 5-gram tungsten bullet on a 2-inch lure is no aberration).

Minnow-type swimming fish from 6 to 10 cm are very effective on all species, especially asp...
Tips and tricks for success
Don't hesitate to reduce the size of the lure. Several times in Angers, I was able to make the difference with the Illex Tiny Fry 38 on hunting asps, but I was not interested in lures with more classic measurements
