The capital of the Dordogne department is also a famous and well-known place for streetfishers.
In street fishing competition, Périgueux has always been the scene of bitter battles, often decisive for the final podium in the French championships.
Here again, the city offers accessible, landscaped quays and pedestrian walkways.
Numerous restaurants offer typical Périgord cuisine for a good time with friends.
The Isle is relatively calm here. Rather shallow, it offers numerous opportunities for sight or surface fishing for all types of predator.
In addition to the River Isle, you can also fish the Canal de l'Isle in the heart of Périgueux.

Locks, railway bridges, footpaths and roads punctuate the route.
Nevertheless, the riverbanks remain wild, with many trees and aquatic vegetation.

The basin is a renowned spot for black-bass fishing in the heart of the city.
Downstream of the Pont de la cité, there's plenty of fish.

It's possible to catch beautiful perch, chub and pike.

Special features of the route
The Isle at Périgueux is particularly clear, and when the weather is fine, you can see many fish. Sight fishing is not only fun, but also effective on this course.
Pike are very present in Périgueux, and there's no need to feel self-conscious about looking specifically for them, using rather light fishing for this species.

Suitable techniques and preferred lures
Sight fishing for insects is showing its limits.
To catch large chub that have become educated and recalcitrant, you'll need to fish finely, be extremely discreet and opt for realistic set-ups: fishing with artificial blackberries can make all the difference.
The micro jig is very fishy and regular on the Isle.

Surface lures also have their place in your boxes, to be taken out for the evening shot in shallow areas or to fish the opposite bank.
Some very large pikes haunt the course, and assertive bigbait fishing (large shad, jerkbait...) can offer some big surprises!
Tips and tricks for success
Fine fishing will be one of the keys in Périgueux (16/100 for perch and chub). Be discreet, sight-fish if possible and present your lure as naturally as possible to these wary fish, which are used to seeing anglers pass by!
