Mercury Fishing Cup II, the French championship for predator fishing by boat

Second edition of the Mercury Fishing Cup

The new-format French Carnivore Boat Fishing Championship, organized by the Fédération Française des Pêches Sportives FFPS/Carnassier and Mercury, will be back in 2024. Rendezvous on October 19 and 20 on Lake Vassivières.

A mecca for fishing in France

After a successful first edition, the second Mercury Fishing Cup will take place on October 19 and 20, 2024 on the Vassivières dam lake.

Lac de Vassivière is one of France's leading fishing lakes, covering almost 1,000 hectares. A well-known lake for carnivore fishing enthusiasts, it is home to a large population of pike, zander and perch. The lake, which straddles the departments of Haute-Vienne (87) and Creuse (23), is a man-made reservoir offering superb boating and fishing. At this time of year, carnivores are very active, and it will be possible to accommodate large numbers of boats in optimal conditions.

A successful first edition

Last year, the MFC made its mark on the world of leisure and competition fishing in France thanks to several new features:

  • A co-organizing title partner has helped to raise the profile and importance of the competition.
  • Significant prizes (25,000 euros), including a cheque for 10,000 euros for the winning duo, attracted a great deal of attention.
  • Live webcasting, with a unique system, enabled the competition to be followed in real time.

New partners

After a launch year coordinated by FFPS and Mercury, with the support of electronics brand Lowrance, the MFC is opening up to new partners, to be announced over the coming weeks. These new partners join Mercury, Lowrance, APRIL Marine and Pêcheur.com, who have been won over by the new format and live broadcasting on social networks. Thanks to them, the organizers can be ambitious and produce the biggest freshwater fishing event of the year in France.

According to Yann Diquerreau, marketing manager at Mercury Marine France and co-organizer of the MFC, the new format launched in 2023 has aroused the interest of many partners. The enthusiasm generated by this first edition of the MFC has rekindled commitment to sport fishing. Competitors, who responded in large numbers to the call from Mercury and the FFPS, as well as professionals, including brands, were won over by the event.

Remember to register

Registration for the MFC will open on June 22, 2024 via the My FFPS app, available on Apple Store and Google Play. The entry fee will be 400 euros per two-person crew. Given the enthusiasm of competitors since the announcement on March 21, places - the number of which will be communicated during June - are expected to fill up quickly.

The aim for the teams is to win the title of French carnivore fishing champions in boats 2024, awarded by the FFPS. In 2023, the duo of Jean-Baptiste Morel and Nicolas Noël won on the Seine, taking home a cheque for 10,000 euros and the Mercury Fishing Cup Trophy, inspired by the V8 Pro XS engine. The prizes for 2024 and other surprises will be revealed shortly.
