From July 3 to 5, the Upper Aure Valley will host a new edition of the Salmo Trek, a unique competition in the French fishing scene. More than 100 teams, each consisting of two anglers, will set out on a challenging course in the heart of the Néouvielle Massif, combining salmonid fishing, high-altitude trekking, and complete self-sufficiency.

Over the years, the event has established itself as a must-attend for mountain fishing enthusiasts. But here, success isn?t limited to fishing technique alone. Competitors must also demonstrate endurance, strategy, and management skills as they navigate a marked route connecting several high-altitude lakes, punctuated by mandatory checkpoints.

A comprehensive and challenging event

Spanning three days and two nights, the Salmo Trek is a self-supported adventure. Each team must manage its own pace, gear, and campsites in a sometimes unpredictable mountain environment.

While trout catches?whether using lures or fly fishing?form the core of the rankings, timed trekking challenges round out the event. These sections offer the chance to earn valuable bonus points, adding a tactical dimension to the competition.

A modern and secure organization

Among the unique features of the Salmo Trek, the use of the FishAndYou app marks a major step forward. Approved by the French Sport Fishing Federation, it centralizes all race data: registrations, catch logs, real-time rankings, and participant geolocation.

A tool that improves both the safety of the competitors and the clarity of the event, while optimizing the use of personnel on site.

Because behind this sporting event, the organizers have put together a substantial operation: a medical team, official referees, race marshals, as well as videographers, photographers, drones, and live broadcasts on social media, with connections provided via Starlink.

Numerous institutional partners are also involved, including the PGHM, local AAPPMA chapters, the departmental federation, the National Park, the ONF, the French Office for Biodiversity, local governments, and the Saint-Lary-Soulan tourist office.

A Strong Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

Beyond the competition itself, the Salmo Trek is committed to respecting the natural environment. Participants use lures made from non-toxic materials and follow strict rules to minimize the impact on fish, particularly by handling them as little as possible.
