A look back at Mercury Fishing Cup II: Damien Mazzalovo commissioner

The role of steward is of paramount importance during a fishing competition, and particularly during the Mercury Fishing Cup. Damien Mazzalovo took part in the MFC II as a steward, giving him the opportunity to speak out and highlight the work of all the volunteers without whom such an event could not take place.

Why did you decide to take part in MFC 2 as a curator?

I was invited by one of my best fishing friends, being treasurer and himself President of our club in Brittany (Association "Armorik Fishing Club").

Can you remind readers of the role of a steward in a fishing competition?

We are above all volunteers, and our job is to make sure that all the anglers are in order when they leave (checking livewells, tackle boxes, etc.). Competition stewards also have the role of checking that competitors have caught the fish, that they have returned them to the water in good condition and that the fish have returned to their element in good health.

What difficulties did you encounter as a commissioner at MFC?

Personally, we didn't encounter any significant difficulties, as we ourselves organize events in our department and are used to this type of meeting. We had a great time out on the water, controlling some well-composed competitors!

The good points from your point of view on the conduct of the competition and compliance with the rules?

That ties in with the previous question: a good atmosphere, friendly anglers, competitors who are used to these challenges and who remain open to discussion.

Is there anything you'd like to see improved in the way MFC is run, regulated or organized?

Lunchtime sandwiches !!! No, I'm kidding! Nothing to report on this side, I warmly thank all the Mercury Fhishing Cup team for selecting and inviting me and my colleague for this event.

You'll be back next year to take part in the Mercury Fishing Cup. Why, and why again as steward?

Of course I'll be back if I'm invited a second time! But maybe as a competitor, who knows... !
