Our lives, in all fields, have been affected by the digital and technological revolution. Fishing has not escaped it. The technological evolution is constant to reach ever more considerable performances.
Fishfinders are an almost indispensable technology in our fishing practice, regardless of the type of fishing practiced. A little ball named Deeper has been and remains a revolution in the field of on-board sounding (and not only). This advance, which is now more than 10 years old, is constantly evolving like any self-respecting technology.
Look level
From an aesthetic point of view, there are no changes to report. You'd think we had the old model in our hands. But it is not. The Deeper Pro+2 doesn't even need to hide behind a makeover to justify its existence. Only its capabilities and features set it apart from the Pro+ model.
A new weight
One of the notable changes is its weight. The Deeper Pro+2 is 90 grams, 10 grams lighter than the Deeper Pro+ .
Some will say that it is commercial, that it is not much. I don't think so at all. I explain myself. The main interest, apart from the fact that it can be launched from the shore, is its compactness. It must therefore be easy to use with compact equipment. Very user of short rods like the Freeway rods from Starbaits, this weight reduction is appreciable for a better exploitation and versatility.
Of course, nothing will replace a good spod rod like a MILSPEC LCR DARK SHADOW or a M4 T-SPEC to pass 100 m whatever the conditions, but being able to use such a sounder with less powerful compact rods is of great interest and is in the very spirit of the philosophy Deeper . And 10 grams less on this kind of rods is huge! This is true for carp fishing, but also for fishing for predators, with feedersâ?¦
To remain on the subject of the throw, we find for this Deeper Pro+2 the same behavior in terms of aerodynamics and stability when propelled. Child's play with a little practice.
A more stable and efficient connection
During the test of my Deeper Pro+2 i went to a place I know well and where I found the Deeper Pro+ less comfortable than on other grounds: very crowded banks (surrounded by forest) and a rather shallow depth (1 m on average).
Over about 2 hours of intensive use, I noticed almost no loss of Wifi or GPS signal. On this point, I find it much better than the Deeper Pro+ . During this test, I also made a bathymetric map, recorded GPS points (fishing, fish âeuros¦).
All this from the shore (short rod, spodâeuros¦ rod) but also with the help of my bait boat RT4.
Note that I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and was able to probe just over 100m.
A wider range of frequencies
3 scanning frequencies are now available with the Deeper Pro+2 instead of 2 for the Deeper Pro+ :
- 675 KHZ (7° angle)
- 240 KHZ (20° angle)
- 100 KHZ (47° angle)
With an additional frequency, the Deeper Pro+2 will be more accurate and detailed. This is a real asset, especially in deeper water.
The error often noted is the use of a wide angle in deep water to accurately find a break (for example). This will result in an accuracy error of several meters, whereas with the small-angle transducer we will be very accurate. This precision is useful for all types of fishing. It is up to us to choose the right angle (among the 3) according to the conditions and what we are looking for.
An easier interpretation
As mentioned above, I had in the past a Deeper Pro+ . The technology of the Deeper Pro+2 allows a better separation of the targets (branch/fish for example) and thus a better interpretation. On the site I know well, this observation is without appeal.
The characteristic given by Deeper goes in this direction since the separation of the targets was concrete from 2.5 cm whereas it is given today at 1 cm for the Deeper Pro+2 . For me, the difference in fishing action is quite clear.
What about autonomy?
The autonomy which is essential to us at the edge of water is more important on this new model of the Pro+ version. At the time of this test, I consumed hardly 20 % in 2 hours of intensive use. The 9 hours announced are thus well a reality!
50% more than the Deeper Pro+. Also, the Deeper Pro+2 benefits from a fast charge up to 80%. This phase is done in only 45 minutes. The 100% will be reached in 75 minutes.
Chirp+2 or Pro+2?
In view of what I announced after my test, many may wonder which model to choose between the Chirp+2 and the Pro+2. The price difference between these two models has however an explanation. It is justified almost solely by the Chirp technology (non-fixed scanning frequency). And this technology has a cost especially for quality materials used as on the Deeper Chirp+2.
So even though the view is clearer and more detailed on the Chirp+2, that doesn't mean it is incorrect on the Pro+2. The on-screen transmission will simply be less detailed on the Pro+2, but just as accurate as on the Chirp+2. The choice will then be a question of budget (better reading/interpretation comfort) but not of efficiency.
Application and accessories
Like all other Deeper models, the Deeper Pro+2 is used via the Fish Deeper application (very intuitive) on Android or on IOS.
You will find many features to take advantage with maximum efficiency of your Deeper Pro+2 which is sold with 2 clips, a neoprene cover and its charging cable.
You can also use optional equipment like the flexible boat mount arm or the orange cover for night fishing.
Verdict
The new version that is the Deeper Pro+2 presents an effective evolution compared to its predecessor, the Pro+, which makes it more efficient in fishing action. Weight, autonomy, scan frequencies, target separation, connections: all the elements mentioned have been improved compared to the previous version to satisfy us even more.
This small, versatile sonar (onboard or boat) has taken another step forward in the Pro+ line. Deeper will not stop there. The technology continues its way!
