Koi carp presentation
A member of the Cyprinidae family, Koi carp (Cyprinus carpio) are native to Asia. It is a hybrid species initially introduced to France to decorate private ponds. It is now frequently found on public lakes and rivers. The koi carp was originally a cross between different colored carps. Koi carp can live up to 50 years, weigh around 8 kilos and measure over 80 centimetres. Many colors can adorn its massive body. From red and white to black, orange and gold, they can combine many different colors and patterns. Each dress is unique and fascinating. A gregarious fish, it often moves in the company of other carp, whether common or mirror.
Mainly sight fishing

An omnivorous fish, koi carp are opportunists, feeding largely on plants, but can also take bait that wasn't really intended for them. Worms, pellets, bread or even dog food, Koi carp are adaptable when in search of food. The easiest way to catch koi carp is by sight fishing. Once you've spotted the fish, you need to present your bait as discreetly as possible. As with other carp species, koi can sometimes be caught using small soft lures or even a fly.
Equipment to match
Not shy in a pond, Koi carp quickly adapt to life in the wild. Depending on the size and approximate weight of the Koi spotted, you'll need to adapt your tackle. Your rigs will need to combine discretion and strength. Once hooked, Koi carp will tend to seek out obstacles, such as submerged wood or seaweed. Your rod and reel set should enable you to counter its power.

If you have the opportunity to catch some beautiful koi carp, take the opportunity to take a nice photo and quickly return this unusual fish to the water.
