Rod and reel
First of all, the choice of the rod will be conditioned by its action but also and especially by the weight of the lures to send. For swimbaits weighing less than 50 grams, a rod with adequate power and a regular or fast action will do the trick, whether it is for casting or even spinning. What's interesting about small swimbaits is that they can be used without any special equipment.

When using heavier lures, it is advisable to switch to specific equipment. A casting rod is preferable, not to say mandatory, because swimbaits are cranked and the direct drive of the casting reel brings more comfort. A length of about 2,20m to 2,40m brings a comfortable lever arm to propel heavy lures all day long. The action of this one should not be too steep: Regular or Regular Fast. The important thing is not to make a mistake with a rod designed for jerk baits, which will be shorter and too stiff. To accompany this rod, a reel in size 300 is adapted, it allows to have a big capacity and a good brake.
Line body
As far as the line on the reel is concerned, small swimbaits don't need much, a 30 lbs braid or a 35/100 nylon will be enough. For larger lures, I have a strong preference for 40 or 45/100 nylon for several reasons. Firstly, it gives the advantage of absorbing the touch and avoiding stalls. Secondly, nylon is much better than braid for repeated hard casts. Finally, and this is a point that makes sense in the long term, swimbaits are lures that do not resist when retrieved. The line on the reel spool is not perfectly wound and tight. With a thick line, casting is made easier and accidents are avoided. For those who like to use braid, a line power of 50 to 60 lbs allows you to cast large lures in complete safety.
Bottom of the line
For small swimbaits, the ideal is a steel leader or a thin titanium which thanks to their flexibility will not hinder the swimming of the lure.

For larger lures that are less susceptible to the disturbances of a large leader, a solid titanium will provide enough rigidity to avoid tangling.
