Hard swimbait fishing for predators, an affordable technique

© Likid Fishing

The price of some hard swimbaits is something that can surprise and put off getting into this technique at first. If you choose your equipment wisely, it is not so excessive.

The high price of lures

I am not going to talk about the price of rod and reel sets, because you can find them at any price, depending on your desires and the pleasure you want to have. However, if we look at the price of a lure at retail, indeed, that of a swimbait is generally higher than a small lure. This is due in part to the larger size of the lure, the higher development costs and the lower production volumes for this type of lure. This price is therefore completely justified, however, we must not stop on this one. What you need to remember is that with this type of fishing, a base of 4 to 6 lures can cope with a lot of situations, beyond that, it becomes a collector's item, but that's another story. These are also lures that are strong, durable and almost never lost. They will catch a lot of fish before they give up the ghost. With lighter lures, you multiply the number and consume more, so the budget is the same, or even much less for long-term swimbaiting.

Versatility

As said before, a small selection of good lures will give you a good start to this technique for the whole season. Indeed, a white and a fire tiger color to face the different shades of water, as well as a model in two sections and a model in three sections to vary the swim are a good starting point.

Personally, I often walk around with only 2 swimbaits in my backpack, which is quite enough.

An overview

To get an idea of this technique, without investing in a rod and reel set, buying one or two lures that you can use on your heavy rod is a good starting point. I can advise you, for example, good references at reasonable prices like the S Waver 168l from River2Sea, the Vatalion 115F from Megabass and the Freddy 170 from Illex which is making a comeback this year. Must have for pike. These lures are about 50 grams and do not require any special equipment to be used.

Once the material aspect is understood, the other step to take is the technique itself. To master this one you will have to relearn certain things and be patient.
