Fishing for carp is a source of adrenaline. But as soon as you fish them on the surface and between two waters, the excitement is at its maximum! Boils, movements, the waggler dancing in all directions! An expectation: to see it sink and to have the fish in combat on a direct contact.
The equipment to fish with a pellet waggler
The waggler float is a piece of wood or plastic in the shape of a cylinder. This float is equipped with a disc that reproduces the sound of the pellet. The floats can be of different weights. This allows for different sound effects. The sound of the waggler hitting the surface of the water over and over again attracts the carp.
The slingshot is the essential element to approach this technique. It must be adapted to sling pellets.
The pellet waggler can be approached either with the big rod or the reel. The big rod, must be designed to fish carp, specimen. Concerning the fishing with the reel, a rod with a good power reserve and very handy is essential. The reel, as for him must be furnished with a 23/100 and size 3000.
The assembly of the pellet waggler
It is fixed directly on the reel line, or on a 23/100 nylon for the big rod. Between two stop-floats, a staple is fixed. At the end of the line, a loop must be made. This one will allow to link via a knot "loop in loop" the leader provided with the hook.
The leader must be mounted in 20/100. The hook is special pellet waggler type. Its length must be between 40 and 60 centimeters. This one can be mounted simply. It will then be necessary to insert a plastic ring. The hook can also be mounted with a hair, on which the ring will be pre-mounted. This ring will allow you to simply place a pellet on it.
Pellets
The pellets are generally between 6 and 8 mm in size. There are several types of pellets. Their composition will make them fatter, heavier or lighter¦ This will affect the noise they make on impact with the water, hence the different floats. It is important to have uniform pellets. You will see this when you sling them. If the grouping of pellets sent falls in the same place, or if it scatters. Do not get your pellets wet, keep them dry.
Pellet waggler fishing action
The hits will not be immediate. You have to build a fishing stroke. To determine this, it depends on your technique:
- If you are fishing with a long rod, your fishing distance will be at the rod length (9, 11 or 13 meters).
- If you are fishing with a reel, your fishing distance is between 15 and 30 meters. You can also determine your fishing distance based on the sling distance. That is, where your pellets will fall. It is important that your fishing area be accurately baited.
Once you start to slash, you should not stop. It is better to continuously slingshot 3 pellets at a time, rather than putting full pockets in discontinuous, which moreover will fall on a broad zone. It is the dynamics, and the noise of the pellet that will put the fish in food competition. The fishes will then go up towards the surface, to thus come to feed. By slinging the pellets 3 by 3, you will get more hits. Regular baiting will also prevent fish from being speared.
Just like fishing on the bottom, you will have to adjust your water height by playing with the stop-floats. You will just have to slide them, by raising or lowering them along your nylon. The adjustment will be made according to the "false hits" and the passage in the line. It is up to you to find the right balance.
This starting height can change during the fishing. Depending on the dynamics of the baiting, the fish will feed in different layers of water. The bites are brutal. Often, you will not need to strike. The fight is extraordinary because you are in direct contact with the fish, without intermediate lead weight.
If you can, keep slinging your fishing stroke, while fighting your fish. This will get another hit quicker and keep the fish in the area. Once the fish is dry, don't delay in taking your picture, to gently release your fish back into the water.
