Fast carp fishing from a boat: how to make a floating rod pod?

Recently, I explained how to approach fast boat fishing without it being prohibitive. The key piece of equipment for this type of approach is a floating rod pod that I developed myself.

Freedom of movement

The advantage is to be able to settle wherever we want and especially not to transform our boat into an immobile platform.

We can therefore continue to bait, fight the fish, echo-sound ... with our boat. All this with a limited material constraint.

How to make this device simple?

The basis of my innovation is a tractor inner tube. A model of 1 meter in diameter with a 20 cm tube is perfectly suitable.

This type of model ensures real stability.

To accommodate my rod pod, I made up a piece of wood that is slightly longer than the diameter of the chamber to facilitate anchoring.

To make this receptacle, you must use a wood of good consistency and paint it with an exterior paint.

A width of 20 cm allows a natural stability.

To hold the piece of wood, I use straps that hold it together without damaging it.

At each end of the wooden board, I screwed a wedge cleat made of metal.

The piece of wood being longer than the chamber, the anchoring cords do not rub on it.

Perpendicular to my board, I attached a support also made of wood to accommodate the rod pod clamp like a boat's rear support would.

To make it look better, I simply use a camouflage net that I put over the system.

The rod pod clamp holds it all together.

Finally, to anchor my device, I use two 5 kg discs with 5 mm cord (one in the front and one in the back).

It's up to you!
