History and description
Latin name : Triticum
English name : Wheat
The term wheat appeared in the French language in the 11th century. The term "wheat" has long designated all cereals like the word "corn" in English. In the West and in the Middle East, wheat is a basic component of the diet. It comes from a wild grass of the Near East. Its consumption dates back to ancient times. The first cultures date back to the 8th millennium BC in the region of the fertile crescent. The arrival of wheat in France dates back to 5000 years before Christ.

Nutritional qualities of wheat
This seed is a cereal. Wheat is poor in protein with a rate of about 10%, but rich in starch. The wheat by its small size, allows to start a food competition. It is very much used by anglers. Which fisherman has never been broken by a carp on a roach fishing trip and this even in winter ! The bran (its envelope) is rich in nutrients and fibers. The wheat germ is the most nutrient-rich part. Gluten is the main protein in wheat. Small defect for some or huge for others, wheat is very perishable especially once cooked.

Preparation of wheat for carp fishing
The soaking time should be 24 hours. As for the cooking, 30 min on low heat are enough. It is nevertheless preferable to stop cooking when some grains burst (passive cooking). This seed is sufficient on its own. The addition of various additives remains possible.

Packaging
Wheat is easily found at a good farmer's for a modest price or in a grain store. For those who wish, there are also ready-to-use mixes (spod mix) on the market, flavored or natural, such as Ready Seeds from Starbaits. The Spod Mix is composed of wheat, hemp and corn.

Drying of wheat
As for hemp seed, the drying of wheat is possible even if it is more fastidious than for other seeds. Here again, it is necessary to use an anti-cat net to make a small wheat ball. Also, it is possible to use boggey or to thread grains on a very fine thread with a very fine needle.

Wheat, which seems to be somewhat out of fashion and shunned by the "new generation" carp fishermen, has certainly not said its last word.
