The chickpea, a seed belonging to the legumes, is not at all popular among carp fishermen, although this seed has many advantages, especially in its use. So, certainly, it is not the most selective, but it deserves that we are interested in it more especially as its preparation is not difficult.

History and description
Latin name : Cicer arietinum
English name : Chickpea
Originating from the Near East where wild species still exist in this region of the world. The chickpea arrived in Europe in the Middle Ages after the Crusades, but its cultivation and consumption are attested to as early as the 9th century by writings and archaeological sources. Chickpeas have been known and cited since ancient times under the name hallaru (3000 BC) as a food source. Cicero got his name from a large chickpea-shaped wart on his face.
The chickpea is of medium size. It comes from a plant close to the pea, but from a different botanical genus. This plant belongs to the fabaceae family.

Nutritional qualities of chickpeas
This seed has a high content of assimilable carbohydrates, but also a high percentage of vegetable proteins. It is also rich in minerals (calcium, iron, potassium and phosphorus) and vitamins. Like all legumes, its proteins are said to be incomplete since there is a deficiency of certain amino acids.
Therefore, think of coupling it with a cereal crop. Its carbohydrate content is high (40 to 60%). Its lipidic rate is around 7 %. It should be noted that if the chickpea is adored by white fishes, cat-fish as for them sulk it.

Preparation
48 hours of soaking is enough. As indicated in general on the seeds, it is important to put a good quantity of water, because the chickpea triples in volume (approximately) once the water is absorbed. 30 minutes of cooking will do the trick in water brought to a boil. Note that chickpeas germinate easily. The carps will be more excited by this dish.

Drying
Everything is possible of course without too much difficulty. The classic presentations, i.e. dense, balanced or floating, are easily achievable.

Tips and tricks to fish for carp with chickpeas
Chickpeas can be flavored and colored very well with synthetic products or natural liquids. It is all a matter of taste and belief. These processes are possible after cooking.

With the chickpea, it is easy to bait from the shore even when using it pure, especially with a sling. The fishing distances will then be correct. The chickpea can thus correspond to the fishermen who want a compromise between the advantages of the seed and those of the boilie. Just like the maple pea! So chickpea or not chickpea?
