Fishing with seeds
Today, we use seeds in a completely different way than our ancestors did. Corn, wheat, and beans were the most common seeds used to fish for carp. Not only did they bait with it, but more importantly they fished with it.
Nowadays, we realize that for many carpanglers, the seed allows to bait in large quantities at a very low price while having a negative connotation. Moreover, for many, the seeds are not selective enough concerning the big fish. Thus, a restricted number of fishermen play the card of the baiting with the seed, the boilie raising much more hope!

A great assimilation
One of the first qualities of the seeds is that the carps assimilate them very quickly. When we see by instant the feeding frenzy that seeds can trigger on our cyprins, it is a pity not to exploit them to their maximum. Especially as the diversity of seeds is inexhaustible even if some are more known than others.
Seeds can be cooked, raw, large, small, sprouted, fermented, dense or notâ?¦ The color of the seeds is a parameter we can play with. It depends if we want to contrast with the background or not.
The density of the bait is also important. Light seeds work well on soft bottoms. On the other hand, this type of seeds is to be proscribed in river, because the current will make them make an unforgettable trip. For the drying, it is possible to play on the cooking or to simply make them soak (at least for some).

But what is a seed?
Definition of a seed: a seed is a plant in the making that lives in slow motion. Depending on the conditions of conservation, it is possible to store seeds for a long time. These seeds, however small, have an exceptional nutritional potential. They can be stored for several months or even several years.
There are oilseeds, cereals and legumes.

What are amino acids?
Definition of an essential amino acid: it is an amino acid that cannot be synthesized by the body, but which is essential. It is only found in food.
Making a difference
Playing the difference card is easy with seeds. You just have to have the means to do so. It is thus important to know their properties to master their preparation and use. There is no room for chance. It is necessary for that to lean on their characteristics.
Thus, seeds can be classified into 3 main categories:
- Legumes such as beans, peas and beans¦
- The cereals like corn, the wheatâ?¦
- Oilseeds such as peanuts, sunflowersâ?¦

With this classification, it is already easier for us to see clearly. Because obviously, according to the conditions of fishing, it will be more judicious to use such or such type of seed even to associate them to arrive at proposing a balanced menu with the perfect assimilation. Seeds are rich in amino acids which the carp's organism needs.
Towards a balanced diet
However, for the carp (as for our food besides) it is preferable to eat several seeds the same day rather than one each day. The assimilation is done only if there is a good balance of amino acids. The latter lead to proteins which are essential for many biological processes.
As recommended in some diets, it is very interesting to associate cereals with legumes. Cereals are lysine-limiting and methionine-sufficient seeds, whereas legumes are methionine-limiting and lysine-sufficient seeds. The only seed that is sufficient in methionine and lysine is the hemp seed (it is not the least efficient!).
Beware that everything is not so simple, because the essential amino acids are a total of 8 (tryptophan, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, valine, leucine, isoleucine and the two mentioned above). Therefore, the more diversified the diet, the more we will be able to offer these 8 essential amino acids that are not stored in the body. Hence the need for a daily balance.

When to choose
In addition to this essential association mentioned above, each seed has its own particularities such as shape, size, conservationâeuros¦ With the knowledge that we have on all seeds, it is more obvious to set up a priming strategy according to the fishing conditions.
The bait should attract carp or other fish. If the tactic is to trigger a feeding competition between all the white fish, it will be preferable to integrate small seeds. On the other hand, if the tactic is to avoid undesirable fish, you should use seeds that are likely to be of interest only to carp. Seeds can also be very useful when catfish or crayfish are present.
In addition to the baiting, the baiting and therefore the presentation can take any form desired (bottom, floating, balanced, cheat mountâeuros¦) All types of seeds can be baited using different types of materials (boggey, anti-cat net, maggot clipâeuros¦). Let your imagination make the difference.

When used properly, seeds are a formidable bait for carp fishing. For that, it is advisable to know them well, to prepare them well and to keep them well.
