The landing net is not yet an automatic for all fishermen. However, there is a lot of interest in using one, especially since there is one for every taste and budget.
The landing net is a very useful accessory in many ways. Also called salabre (more by sea fishermen), it is a net held open by a metal hoop, made of wood or composite materials, which allows to conclude the fight with a big fish, but not only!
Finalize the fight
The landing net is used first to finalize a fight. Once in the net, the fight is won. This is very valid for big fish and even more so for salmonids that you can't grab by the mouth or by the gills.

Ending the fight as soon as possible with a landing net is also the guarantee to release the fish in the best conditions by shortening the fight.
Ensuring that you get
In addition to the finalization of the fight, the landing net allows to ensure a fast and smooth catch. This is particularly the case in competition where the landing net is most of the time compulsory. This is especially true for competitions targeting salmonids without barbs (salmo trek, trout area ...) where the fish can fall off at any time.
Handle and calm the fish
Once the fight is over, the fish must be unhooked and calmed. Here again, the landing net is ideal. Wrapped in the canvas of the wet net, the fish calms down naturally. It is then possible to unhook it without risk of seeing it flee before the photo session.

By grabbing the fish at the bottom of the net, you have all the time to unhook it in good conditions, without risking to hurt yourself or to set a stray hook... If the fish gets agitated when you hold it, you just have to release it into the net while it is still in the water.
Release the fish in the best conditions
As we said, the landing net allows to shorten the fight and to unhook efficiently a trout. The landing net also allows you to leave the fish in the water until it regains its strength and is able to return to its liquid element.

Catch a fish or an object
And if the fish should turn or swim awkwardly on the surface, it is still possible to catch it with the landing net and not leave it to a random fate. The same is true for accessories that may have fallen into the water. A blow of landing net and we recover the whole!
