A rod for toc fishing
Here's an overview of the three types of rods you can use for toc fishing.
Remote-adjustable cane:
- Advantages: the main feature of this rod is its ability to adjust its length. This allows the angler to adapt to different fishing conditions and choose the ideal length to suit the situation.
- Disadvantages: they are often heavier than other types of rods, which can make them less easy to handle. In addition, they generally offer less casting power than multi-section rods.
The inner-wire rod :
- Advantages: this rod is particularly useful for fishing in congested areas, such as banks with a lot of vegetation. The line running inside the rod reduces the risk of snagging, which is a considerable advantage in these conditions.
- Disadvantages: it may be less sensitive than other types of rods, which can make it more difficult to detect hits.
The multi-strand rod:
- Advantages: these rods are generally lighter and offer better casting performance. They are often preferred by experienced anglers for their manoeuvrability and precision.
- Disadvantages: they may be less versatile in terms of length, as they are not adjustable like telescopic rods.

Your choice of rod will therefore depend on your personal preferences and the specific fishing conditions you encounter.
The reel for the toc technique
The choice of reel for toc fishing is less important. What is necessary is to choose a rather light reel as you always have the rod in your hand. A spinning reel in size 1500 or 2000 is preferable. A front drag is often preferred for its precision and ability to fine-tune line tension. This is particularly useful when fishing with fine lines and light baits.
Note that having one or more extra spools can be useful for quickly changing line diameter according to fishing conditions.

The landing net
The use of a landing net for trout fishing is essential for several reasons.
A landing net allows you to catch trout without injuring them, by avoiding handling them directly with your hands. This reduces stress on the fish and increases its chances of survival in the event of release. It makes catching trout easier, especially in shallow or fast-flowing water, where it can be difficult to handle the fish by hand.
Choose a landing net with a diameter large enough to catch trout without difficulty. A landing net with a diameter of 30 to 40 cm is generally suitable. A wide-meshed, shallow landing net is ideal for toc fishing, as it allows you to catch fish quickly and handle them easily.

Materials such as rubber or silicone mesh are preferable, as they are soft and won't damage the fish. A telescopic handle can be useful to adjust the length of the landing net according to the depth of the water and the distance you are fishing.
In addition, a lightweight, easy-to-handle landing net is essential for toc fishing, where discretion and speed are important. A lightweight carbon-fibre or aluminium handle is often recommended.
