Sea fishing from a boat on the Var coast

Very popular with vacationers, the Var department allows boat fishermen to practice many techniques in search of the smallest fish to the largest.

From fishing for soup to tracking pelagic fish, sea fishing in the Var offers a beautiful playground. Whether you are fishing with support, tenya or lure, a multitude of fish species are present. Rock fish are numerous, and beautiful predators such as dentex or paddlefish haunt the sea bed. You can even practice deep-sea fishing in depths of more than 200 meters without going too far from the coast.

For those who don't own a boat, it is possible to have fun in a kayak. You just need to make sure that your kayak is approved for sea fishing. However, even if the Mediterranean often looks like a calm sea, the wind and the sea can rise very quickly. As a precaution, it is therefore necessary to consult the weather forecast before going out, even in the middle of summer. This is of course also true if you are fishing from a boat.

Many pelagic fish can be caught near the Var coast. From Spanish mackerel to redfish, including pelagic or bonito, there is a lot to do. The bay of Toulon or the bay of Saint-Tropez are often frequented spots for fishing on the chases. When you go further away, it is not uncommon to come across the Grail of Mediterranean fishing, the bluefin tuna. Be careful, bluefin tuna fishing is regulated and there are many controls.

Putting your boat in the water

Port of call berths are very popular during the summer and prices vary from one port to another. You are on the French Riviera, so the price fluctuates according to the season and the port. There are many slipways in the Var, more than 40 of them, and many of them charge more than 10 euros for a launch. There are still some free docks, but their access is not always practical depending on the size of your boat. You can find for example free slipways in Bandol, Saint-Cyr-sur-mer, Hyères, Cavalaire or Sainte-Maxime.
