Supplying Toulon with drinking water
Between 1934 and 1939, a dam was built to create an artificial lake to supply the city of Toulon with drinking water. Owned by the city of Toulon, the dam, located in the commune of Carcès, can hold up to 8 million cubic meters of water. Lac de Sainte-Suzanne is fed by two rivers well known to trout fishermen, the Caramy and the Issole. At 3 kilometers long and 300 meters wide, Lac de Carcès is one of the largest lakes in the central Var region. Almost 100 hectares in size, with depths of up to 20 metres and an average depth of just 4 metres.

Easy access
Lac de Sainte-Suzanne is a very accessible lake, with numerous footpaths lining the reservoir. What's more, road access is easy and there's plenty of parking. This makes the lake accessible to everyone and for all fishing techniques. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced angler, you'll find it easy to try your hand at jigging, landing, feeder and lure fishing.

Fishing on Lac de Carcès
Lac de Carcès is classified as a second category lake, and is well known to carp fishing enthusiasts. Anglers come from all over France and Europe in the hope of catching one of the beautiful carp that populate this lake. As the lake is totally closed to all forms of navigation, carp anglers can cast their lines with peace of mind. Carp fishing is authorized at night by law. Please contact your local authority for information on night fishing for carp.

The lake also boasts a fine population of predators and whitefish. Pike, catfish, pike-perch, perch and a few black-bass are all common. As for the white fish, rotengles are very present and cohabit with roach and bream.

Note the presence of sun perch and catfish, two species classified as pests. Carp and black bass must be fished no-kill only. The final quota for carnivores is three fish per day, including a maximum of two pike. There is a fishing reserve on the lake near the old Pont du Caramy, so don't hesitate to find out about the regulations in force when you go fishing on this lake.
