History and change of status
Although neither the fishing federation nor the Société du Canal de Provence (SCP) are certain of the exact date, it is assumed that fishing has been banned since the dam was built in 1967. Lac du Trapan is a reserve of drinking water intended to supply the towns on the Var coast east of Toulon, which implies strict restrictions on access and use. The fishing ban was designed to protect the quality of the drinking water.
From Friday June 27, 2025, the eastern half of the banks of Lac du Trapan will be open to fishing for a period of one year. This decision follows a proposal from the Aappma Truite du Gapeau through its president Vincent Petit, who convinced the SCP of the merits of this initiative.

Anglers now have access to 1,400 metres of shoreline, giving them a choice of different fishing spots along this stretch.
Anglers can try their hand at several species of fish, including :
- Ablettes : small fish often sought after for their vivacity.
- Gardons : a common freshwater species appreciated for its resistance.
- Perches : known for their lively fight, perch are a favorite among anglers.
- Carp: a robust fish that can offer an interesting challenge.
- Black bass : highly prized for sport fishing, the black bass is an aggressive predator.

Measures and regulations
Increased surveillance is in place. Two guards are on site to supervise visitors and ensure that the rules are respected.
Various fishing rules have been put in place and must be complied with if this authorization to practice recreational fishing is to be maintained:
Carnivore fishing authorized from the last Friday in June to December 31st, then from January 1st to April 1st.
Carp and black bass no-kill.
Baiting prohibited: to maintain water clarity, baiting to attract carp is forbidden.
Authorized bait : only artificial baits are authorized for carnivorous fishing, with the exception of worms.
Expectations and hopes
Vincent Petit, president of the Aappma du Gapeau, underlines the expectations of anglers for this new fishing route, unique on the coast.
The SCP, for its part, sees this opening as a way of controlling traffic to the site, which was previously accessible on an unregulated basis.
Site access
Access to the fishing trail is below the cycle path, on the bakery side of the Verrerie road.

The opening of Lac du Trapan to fishing represents an opportunity for local anglers to discover a new fishing site, while enabling better management and monitoring of lake use. The measures put in place aim to protect water quality while offering a new fishing experience for enthusiasts.
