The large dam lakes are quite numerous on the territory. Most of them are located in the north of the department and contain good fish populations for all fishing lovers. It is possible to fish in all the Var with an inter-federal permit. Thermal engines are forbidden on all the lakes of the department. Kayak or float-tube fishing is authorized on the large lakes.

The lake of Sainte-Croix

The lake of Sainte-Croix is without doubt the most famous of the lakes of the Var. With its 2200 hectares, this dam lake was built at the entrance of the famous Gorges du Verdon. It allows the angler to find his happiness as well as the angler with the lure or the carpist. As for the lure fishermen, they can track pike or lake trout from the shore or from a boat on emerald green waters.

You can also fish for pike, zander, perch and many species of white fish. It is also possible to fish for whitefish on this lake. The lake has a depth of about 50 meters in front of the dam.

In addition to carp, it is possible to fish for beautiful predators. Perch, pike-perch, black-bass and pike populate this lake of nearly 450 hectares.

Good to know

In summer, the large lakes where swimming is permitted will be crowded during the day. However, they will still be open for swimming in the early morning or at the end of the day. In the whole department of Var, the catching of carnivorous fish (black-bass, pike-perch, pike) is limited to three fish of which two pikes maximum. Don't forget to ask about the specific regulations for each lake.
