Ned Rig
The Ned Rig is a flat lead head that has the particularity of presenting the lure in a vertical position, when it is placed on the bottom.

A small worm or crayfish is commonly placed on this lead head. What is important is that this lure is floating, so it stands upright.

Target species
Invented, first and foremost, to fish for black bass, this technique is perfectly adapted for French waters to fish for perch, pike perch, and even trout. At sea, this technique is also worth trying, to look for bass, pikeperch and olds in the rocks.
Rod and reel
A light and sensitive spinning rod, Ml or M type, is the best tool to work this lure and feel the subtle aspirations of black bass. A fast or regular fast action is the best to feel the slightest pressure and have a fast strike.
A light reel, size 2500, filled with fine 10 or 12 pound braid gives a good balance to the whole. To complete the rig, a fluorocarbon leader, also thin, of 8 or 10 pounds is ideal for this fine technique, with which you must remain in contact with the lure at all times.
Animation
The Ned Rig is a lure that should be cast and dropped to the bottom, then brought back slowly, making it jump on the retrieve. The breaks are very important, and during them, you must remain vigilant, because it is very often at this moment that the touch occurs.
The Ned Rig is a technique that is similar to the drop shot. That is to say that it is slow, and should be used on marked spots, where we know there are fish. It is not a prospecting lure, the idea is to present something convincing, to localized fish.
The period of prespawn and winter is a privileged time to fish black bass this way. But it is not limited to this period, because it is an effective technique all year long. The only condition is to have active fish, which come to pick up on the bottom.
