A touchscreen designed for navigation
With its borderless glass interface and sleek design, the Garmin GMI 40 was designed to integrate seamlessly into cockpits equipped with Garmin GPSMAP chartplotters, among other devices. The touchscreen makes the most of the available space to ensure clear readability of various data?a valuable feature when navigation conditions become more challenging.

NMEA 2000, BlueNet, and Wireless Connectivity
The GMI 40 integrates with compatible electronics via the NMEA 2000 network as well as the Garmin BlueNet network. Its wireless connectivity also allows it to communicate with gWind Wireless sensors, marine remote controls, and Garmin quatix smartwatches. Software updates can be performed from a compatible smartphone using the free ActiveCaptain app.
Garmin has also thought of GMI 20 owners who want to upgrade their system: an adapter plate is available to mount the new GMI 40 in the existing cutout on the dashboard.
Packs for wind, depth, and temperature
The GMI 40 can be purchased separately or as part of several bundles. Garmin offers configurations that include the gWind Wired or Wireless wind sensor, which features a three-blade anemometer and a two-fin system designed to stabilize true wind angle measurements.
To obtain more information from beneath the surface, configurations can also include a DST820 smart through-hole probe, or combine a GDT 43 for depth and temperature with a GST 43 for temperature and velocity.

Available now, the Garmin GMI 40 has a suggested retail price of ?699.99. Depending on the included equipment and sensors, the complete packages range in price from ?1,199.99 to ?2,099.99.
With this new device, Garmin is taking a simple approach: centralizing essential boat data on a compact, easy-to-read, and connected screen. This solution is equally suited for use on a sailboat, a recreational craft, or a sportfishing boat.
