Trout fishing in the area, know how to choose your equipment

The area is a type of fishing that requires an adapted equipment for several reasons. The efficiency, especially in competition, depends on the speed of execution of the fisherman to catch, bring back and unhook a fish.

Choosing your cane

The equipment needed for trout fishing in the Area has an almost unique feature. Single hooks without barbs are mandatory and trout have a tendency to jump and fight violently after the touch.

To limit the risks of unhooking fish, while being able to propel extremely light lures, it will be necessary to use a rod with a parabolic action that can dampen the head strikes. The casting power should be between 0.2 grams and 5 grams on average, like the Sakura Tsubarea for example.

Which reel to choose ?

The reel added to this rod should not exceed the size 2000. The size 1000 will be the most adapted, it allows to have a light and easily manageable set. Regarding the line to use, it is recommended to fill the reels with nylon in 14 or 16 hundredths whose elasticity will also limit the risk of losing fish.

Some lures need to be used at very low speeds to be effective, so a slow ratio will be very useful. In Area, the brake on the reels is very loose to avoid breaking our very thin line. I personally use reels equipped with ATD technology like the Daiwa Iprimi LT 1000 to increase the fluidity of the drag.

The importance of the landing net

It is compulsory to have a landing net in the area to limit the contact with the fish and to be able to leave it in the water without damaging it if you have to unhook it. These landing nets are generally short for ease of handling and have rubber mesh.

Rubber mesh is much less abrasive when in contact with the skin and scales of the fish. They are also very useful to prevent a hook from getting stuck in the net, which would be a waste of time during a competition.

What is releaser?

The releaser is a small and practical tool designed for fishing in the area. It consists of a handle, sometimes telescopic, and a hook. The use of this tool allows you to unhook the fish with a simple flick of the wrist. The curvature of the hook is placed on the shank of the hook.

Applying pressure in the opposite direction of the hook's entrance is enough to remove it from its housing and free the fish, without even needing to grab it or pull it out of the water. Again, this saves time, but also limits the handling of the fish out of its environment.
