Of a disconcerting ease of use, the soft lures of the "comma" type are very much used for freshwater predators, but much less for trout. These lures are however very effective in many situations!
Definition of a Grub lure
These soft lures imitating a fish were the first to arrive on the market several decades ago. These lures have a body generally round or a little stocky and ends with a flat and thin tail, curved, hence their nickname of "comma". When retrieved, this tail starts to turn on itself with a more or less ample swimming according to its length and its shape. This action gives grubs an attractive swimming action that is quite different from the water movements caused by the vibrations of a shad. There are different shapes of commas which, according to their length and width, will give a more or less tight swim during the reeling.

A lure as easy to use as a spoon
Very few anglers use small commas for trout fishing in dams despite their ease of use.
In fact, simply mounted on a round head, the grubs express all their efficiency with a simple linear. You just have to cast it as far as possible, let it go down to the desired depth, and start a slow retrieve.
It is important to remain very attentive to the phases of descent. Indeed, it is not rare that trout come to seize the grub when it goes down.
During periods of reduced activity, for example in the heat of the day when the fish are stuck to the bottom, it is possible to over-light your lure a little and bring it back very slowly over the bottom, with pauses, a bit like fishing for zander. This kind of fishing can sometimes trigger fish that would not have reacted to anything else.

Grubs are also very effective on fast fishing
Comma lures are also very versatile. Indeed it is also possible to fish very quickly with them, in powerfishing. Those with a fine tail and a very tight swim will be perfect mounted on a darter head. A fast animation with a dry cutting action will make them irresistible for big trout in the hunt!
Another big advantage of this type of lure for trout in lakes is that it sinks more quickly in the water layer than a shad, which allows to better comb the deeper areas.
