Dam lakes are generally ideal for stalking beautiful trout. In fact, it's not uncommon for large quantities of food such as minnows, gudgeon and pseudorasbora to congregate there. These lakes are therefore prime spots for luring big trout!
Well-known and often heavily fished spots
Unlike some overcrowded rivers that may remain secret, or some mountain lakes that require several hours' walk to reach, dams are generally accessible to all. This accessibility, while advantageous for some, is the source of considerable fishing pressure.
Trout, like many other species, are teachable fish, so it's sometimes necessary to think outside the box to trigger a few more fish than your neighbor.

As a general rule, on the banks of accessible dams, we advise you to look for the least-fished spots possible. These spots can be either steep or densely vegetated, or areas of rock or weed that are very catchy, or parts of the lake that require a bit of walking. Whatever the reason, less-fished areas can often hold some pleasant surprises.
Equipment for greater distance and discretion
Always with a view to standing out from the crowd, it is now easy and not necessarily too expensive to fish with equipment adapted to a particular technique and environment. In order to cast farther than anyone else and hit the least-fished fish, a rod of sufficient length, suitable power and fine braid will enable you to reach considerable casting distances.

The same applies to discretion. Some dam lake trout anglers forget how important discretion is, and it's not uncommon to see nylons over 40 hundredths lining reels with no leader added. In comparison, a fluorocarbon between 20 and 25 hundredths is much more suitable and discreet, allowing you to record more bites.
Overused lure types
Some "old-timers" swear by swivel spoons, which, while effective, don't really stand out either, as they've been and still are in use.
Most dam lake anglers use sinking swimbaits, small shads and a few wobbling spoons whose ease of use and versatility are perfect for this type of biotope. The effectiveness of these lures has been proven, and they'll help you catch fish all season long!

However, when the fishing is a little more difficult, other types of lures such as finess, metal jigs or grubs, when you know their subtleties, prove formidable!
