Rods for fishing cephalopods, especially squid from the shore, are often long (at least 2.40 m), to be able to cast far and control the line. They feature special rings for long casts, allowing you to cast without the risk of tangling the braid.
The tip is often a full tip. This makes it easier to feel the bite, and its progressive action provides a gentle curvature that prevents too many cephalopods from being unhooked, while guaranteeing pleasure in the fight.
This same tip is often a different color from the rest of the rod, so that in addition to feeling them in the rod, you can also detect them visually.

Thread and braid
For cephalopod fishing, braid is virtually indispensable. With the same resistance, it is much finer than nylon. This means you can cast your lure further.
Its low elasticity allows the lure's waves and information to be transmitted to the angler. The slightest touch is picked up by the angler. Touches are sometimes barely perceptible. This is particularly true when the squid gently grabs the jig with its tentacles. You have to be perpetually attentive.
For leaders, we use flurocarbon rather than nylon. It is more resistant to abrasion, which is an advantage when fishing close to the bottom.
The braid will be a PE0.6 to PE1 (12 to 20 lbs, or 6 to 10 kilograms) and the flurocarbon will have a lower resistance of 1 or 2 lbs (0.5 or 1 kilo).

Reel
There are reels specially designed for squid fishing. They feature a shallow spool for perfect filling with fine braid.
They often feature a double crank handle and a round, comfortable grip. The reel's brake must be very gentle to release the line at the slightest jerk and avoid tearing or unhooking the coveted cephalopod.
The standard all-purpose size for squid and cephalopods in general is 2500.

Useful accessories
Finally, once equipped for fishing, there are many accessories to make fishing easier.
- A landing net allows you to remove squid without dropping them (lifting fish or cephalopods out of the water). The landing net avoids unhooking the squid and facilitates handling.
- A UV lamp recharges the phosphorescent jigs in the blink of an eye.
- As the sessions take place mainly at night in winter, a headlamp is very useful for getting a clear view of the situation (re-fishing, landing nets, squid spotting...).
- Warm clothing and heaters are very important for fishing comfortably out of the cold.
- Finally, a cloth or tissue can be used to remove traces of ink splashed everywhere...
It's up to you!
