Last day on the Tomo river to catch a peacock bass !

After having secured my trip with the catch of a beautiful peacock bass with a jerkbait minnow, I can enjoy myself and take out the propbaits. A difficult lure to master but so effective!

During this last day, the morning is not very fruitful, we see a big fish hunting, and it stops here. It is the hottest day of the stay, with no wind and a stifling heat.

In such conditions, even if it means doing nothing, I choose to fish exclusively with propbait during the afternoon. It is a lure that I like for its pleasant use and its ability to make the big fish rise. I had already discussed it on the article following but here is some additional information.

It causes many misses, because peacock bass attack by aggressiveness. This characteristic has the advantage of making peacock bass attack even when they are not in a feeding phase! This lure gives constant results, and when nothing gives, the propbait is always a good choice.

The Rip Roller is THE lure to fish for big peacock bass.

We spend most of the afternoon in a large lagoon, in which I get two fish on the propbait and still bring one, of the two, back to the boat. We stayed about four hours in this lagoon, for two attacks, which is a very good result!

You have to be aware that big peacock bass are rare fish and that their population is not high. An individual or a couple protects a large area, or even a lagoon, just for them and you have to keep this in mind. Finding a fish in such a large area takes time and a lot of patience!

If you catch a big fish, you can hope to make your partner in the same spot, but you won't make a series of big fish. So it is better to change the area or lagoon completely.

Exploring a lagoon takes a lot of time.

We finish the day on a beach of the river and fish there until the night fall, to take advantage one last moment of the places. This type of spot is easy to spot, however, it gives only at a specific time, at sunrise or sunset. The fish tend to stay on the edge, so it is necessary to place the boat so as to drift away, and aim at the edge.

On this beach, once the sun is down, I make two last fish.

Fishing the beaches at the end of the day is a great experience.

The attack of peacock bass on propbaits is sudden and there is not always a warning sign. It is important not to hook until you feel that the fish is at the end of the line.

If the fish does not take the hook after the first attack, you must continue the same animation, hoping that the fish will attack again. If you see a fish following, continue the animation until you reach the boat and cast again to return to the area where it was.

Finally, the last piece of advice I can give, is to find out how to animate this lure and practice at home. That way, once you're there, you'll be effective right away, especially since it's not certain that anyone will be able to show you how to use it properly, so you might as well master it before you leave.

This is unfortunately the end of this trip, with a destination, Colombia, that I recommend without any hesitation!

It's time to leave the camp, after a superb week of immersion in the jungle.

If I do a quick review of this destination, the rio Tomo, in Colombia. The fishing there has been good, with several opportunities to catch nice fish. Every day we saw big peacock bass and the potential of the place is clearly there!

This is a rio to be favored only for peacock bass fishing, as catfish and payaras are not numerous and small. If bigger peacock bass is your only goal, this is one of the best destinations!
