The biodiversity in the Amazonian rivers is such that one could spend several weeks trying to capture all the species.
White fish
The local technique for catching white fish is quite simple. It consists of fishing by hand, with only a fishing line, a small sinker and a simple hook. The hook is baited with a paste, made from a powder mixed with water.

The drop shot
To be able to catch small fish with my rod, and get closer to the local tactics, I used bread and this paste, on a drop shot rig.

The drop shot rig has the advantage of being very easy to make, it can be used on a large number of fishing rods and it does not require to bring a lot of equipment. A few simple hooks and weights are enough to make this rig.

Often, when we talk about drop shot, we think about lure fishing, but it is quite possible to put what you want on this simple hook. So, you can fish with worms, seeds, artificial imitations, soft lures or even baitfish, with the same rig. So you can catch a lot of different species.

To make this rig, simply tie a palomar knot to attach the hook, point up, and attach a sinker to the excess line. This is a very simple rig, which allows you to present a bait that is off the bottom.

Sharing
After spending four days relentlessly stalking peacock bass, spending time simply fishing and discovering new species is a good way to rest and enjoy the area. Moreover, this fishing allows us to take the time to discuss and exchange with the camp staff, to spend a good moment of sharing.

A fishing trip, in my opinion, is not only about catching fish, but also about opening up to other cultures. For this, there is nothing better than to exchange on a common passion: fishing.
