Departure for the Tomo river, to fish the coveted peacock bass!

After these four days spent on the Orinoco, a river that I really enjoyed fishing, we headed to the Tomo river to look for peacock bass! A full day is necessary to reach the camp.

4 hours of 4x4

Early in the morning, we load the 4x4. From this moment, knowing that we are going to have a long journey by boat thereafter, of 4 hours in full sun, it is necessary to keep within reach a cap, a neck warmer, sunglasses and to wear covering clothes, as a t-shirt with long sleeve and pants. Do not make the mistake of packing them in your luggage.

The first part of the journey, to join the Tomo river, is done in 4x4. The journey takes place through tracks which become more and more animated with the passing of kilometers, sign that we approach zones less and less frequented.

On the way, we take a ferry that takes us to the opposite bank of the rio Vita. The Bita river is also a famous peacock bass fishing river, but we don't stop here, and continue our journey.

Further, we make a last small stop to nibble and drink, before joining the boats and beginning the ascent of rio Tomo.

4 hours by boat

As the rest of the transport takes place by boat, we have to transfer the material from the 4x4 to the boats.

Once on the boats, apart from enjoying the landscape, we can't really take advantage of this time of transport. It is thus the moment to relax and to rest from the previous days, because the following days will be much less restful.

The fishing camp on the Tomo River

After this journey, which makes us arrive around 4 pm, we discover the camp on which we are going to stay a few days, fishing the peacock bass.

It's time to get the rods ready for tomorrow's fishing day. I recommend taking advantage of the few remaining hours of sunlight to get your gear ready and tie the knots as soon as possible, before heading out into the night.
