I like to fish what I call "human-sized" species. What I mean by this is that we're dealing with species that give good fights without dragging on and that are easy to handle.
Of all the fish species I've been lucky enough to discover so far, I understand why some are so coveted and sought-after on fishing trips. Tarpon, peacock bass and Atlantic salmon all deserve their popularity.
1) Tarpon will make you want to go on a fishing trip
The tarpon is probably the fish that gave me a taste for fishing trips and the desire to go away for the first time! I caught them in the Miami canals and on the Florida flats. To catch such fish, on sight, in shallow water, is the ultimate in sport fishing.
If there's one destination I'd recommend for catching this fish, it's this one, as well as the countries in the Caribbean, where it's possible to catch them with lures or flies.

2) Peacock bass, a fish to dream about
I discovered peacock-bass in Miami, where I fell in love with the fish simply for its beauty and its complex, exciting stalking in the middle of the city.

Later, I decided to delve deeper into his discovery by seeking him out in his native Brazil and Colombia, where I came face to face with the insane power of large specimens.
A fishing experience in the middle of the Amazon jungle is an unforgettable experience, but one that often comes at a considerable cost. Fishing in Miami is more affordable and allows you to discover this colorful species.

3) Atlantic salmon, a mythical fish
Atlantic salmon is a special case. Indeed, fishing for them is quite different from fishing for any other fish, as they stop feeding once they're back in the river. What's more, salmon are in the river for one purpose only: to reproduce! This raises the question of ethics, so, in my opinion, this is a species to be fished moderately.

Whatever the case, it's a fish that leaves no one indifferent. And even if one day I tell myself I won't go back, the next day I already want to. For the last three years in a row, I've been content to catch just one fine Atlantic salmon a year, and I think this choice allows me to enjoy each catch even more.
It's a species you should try at least once in your fishing life, to form your own opinion and learn more about this incredible fish. A fish capable of going back and forth between Greenland and its native river several times in its life. In France, salmon can be caught in certain regions such as Brittany. They are also found in other European countries, the United States and Canada. Catching my first salmon on my own is one of my fondest fishing memories.

These 3 species are among my best fishing memories. What makes them so interesting is the strategy required to get your hands on them. From preparation and information gathering to actually getting out there and catching the fish you want, it's a dream come true.
