If you have chosen to go peacock bass fishing in Colombia, chances are that your starting point for this adventure is in Bogota, so you might as well take the opportunity to discover the city!

Visit Bogota

Bogotá, although it is advisable not to show wealth and not to venture into certain neighborhoods, is a city where one feels safe. It is easy to find your way around, as the street names are based on the model used in North America, with numbers that follow one another to designate streets and avenues. Calle, carrera and avenue are the terms that you will need to understand in order to know where you are.

Getting around

Cabs, ubers and walking, to discover and soak up the atmosphere of the city, are the easiest ways to get around. The public transportation system requires a card that must be requested in advance and is therefore not suitable for tourism.

Complete your fishing equipment

So, let me warn you right away, the fishing stores in Bogota are not at all oriented to fishing in the Amazon! The problem comes even further, because there are few distributors of fishing equipment in the country, so no matter where you go, it is difficult to get equipment. You have to plan your stock well in advance, because you won't find anything in the local stores, unlike in Brazil. To save you, there may be some lures for sale at your fishing camp, but it is advisable to check beforehand.

Communicate

The official language of the country is Spanish, and this is probably the only language you will be expected to use, as apart from a few people who have some knowledge of English, the majority speak exclusively in Spanish. However, don't despair, as Colombians will do their best to understand and make themselves understood. If you have any vague memories of high school, if you chose Spanish as your second language, they are welcome!

Some places to visit

La Candelaria is the historical district of the city where you can find the centers of interest, such as Plaza Bolivar and the museum of the painter Botero, which I highly recommend if you are an art lover.
