Inirida
After a 1.5 hour flight from Bogota, the second stop of the trip is the city of Inirida, located near the border with Venezuela. Inirida is a small town, there is not much to do there, except to enjoy the atmosphere of a typical Latin American city.

From here, we embark on a cab boat, to reach the mouth of the Rio Mataven, where the members of the Piaroas community are waiting to take us to the fishing camp.

After 3 hours of pirogue to go up Rio Mataven while enjoying the landscape, we discover the camp on which we will spend 6 days, dedicated to the fishing of the peacock bass.
Sustainable management
Sport fishing and respect for the fish are values put forward by the organization that manages the camp. As measures put in place to perpetuate this quality of fishing, we find the mandatory use of single hooks, the obligation to return all peacock bass to the water or to shorten as much as possible the exit of fish out of the water for photos ...

Another measure to avoid the education of fish, is that there are two fishing camps on the river, each with its own fishing area. Each camp is used in turn, meaning that when camp number 1 receives a group of fishermen, camp number 2 is at rest and vice versa. Therefore, there is always a period of 6 days without fishing per camp between each group. In addition, each camp receives 5 groups per year, which means that a portion of the river is only fished 5 weeks per year.
Oni-Fishing
The organization that offers this fishing trip, in partnership with Pesca Columbia, is Oni-Fishing. For European citizens, it is mandatory to go through the company Oni-Fishing, if you want to go there. I recommend without hesitation this agency, for their professionalism, whether it is the transfers or the services on the camp, everything is respected to the letter, and even more!
