Special Edition / Trout opening, equip yourself to face the weather conditions

The trout opening is something I look forward to every year. But if there's one thing I don't look forward to as much, it's the weather in early March. It's important to choose the right clothes to make your session a success.

As everyone knows, March is not known to be the most radiant month from the weather point of view. Especially if you are Breton or Norman like me. In order to be 100% in what you do, you need to be properly equipped. I have been convinced for a few years now that having the right clothes on your back can (in a non-direct way) make a difference. So let's get equipped!

The feet

Let's start with your extremities. Your feet, as well as your hands, are the parts of your body most sensitive to heat loss. It is therefore important to protect them properly. During the wet conditions of March, I recommend "Waterproof" shoes. It is now easy to find good models at 60 euros and less.

Inside them, you should wear breathable socks, preferably made of wool. Because of the non-breathability of your shoes, you risk creating humidity with cotton models.

A little tip: in order to insulate your foot as well as possible, a simple trick is to wrap the inner sole of the shoe in aluminum. It's cheap and easy to put in place.

The pants

Let's go back to the legs, the pants. Here, it will be necessary to have a water-repellent to waterproof material depending on the intensity of the rain. Choose models composed mainly of polyamide, they will offer a better resistance to water and air. Models like the MT900 from Forclaz is a very good example.

The upper body

For the upper body, there is a simple rule to follow when hiking that applies perfectly to our practice of fishing from the shore. The 3 layer rule. No matter where you go or what the conditions are, the 3-layer rule is a golden rule of outdoor recreation.

As its name suggests, you need to make your outfit with a superposition of 3 layers of clothing. A layer to evacuate perspiration, a layer to provide warmth and a layer to protect from the outside elements. As an example, this would give: a T-shirt, a fleece and a rain jacket.

The head

Here, your preference will prevail, beanie, cap,âeuros¦ Personally, the cap will have my preference, and this, for three reasons. It does not get stuck in brambles and other shrubs. It will avoid me certain reflections in the eyes due to the sun. It will allow me to be more discreet by creating a shadow on my face.

The glasses

Take the reflex to bring your polarized glasses with you. This is a simple tool, but one that I consider imperative. I regularly take two pairs with me, one for sunny moments and the other for very dark areas. Here are my models: The WX OMEGA and WX PEAK from WILEY X.

The first one is a versatile model perfectly designed to meet the needs of anglers from the shore. The second pair, is an essential for me in dark areas to discern structure and fish below the surface.

I hope I have made you understand the importance of not neglecting any aspect in the preparation of a fishing session.
