The Cheburashka mount, an additional trout fishing asset

A few weeks after the opening of the trout season, the fishing gets complicated. The beautiful farios are starting to get the hang of it and have become wary. It's time to think outside the box, and to do so, I present the Cheburashka rig.

An alternative for trout fishing

Although soft lures now have their place in the tackle box of salmonid anglers, alongside traditional spoons and swimbaits, they often rhyme with lead heads. This Cheburashka rig is a real alternative.

With this rig, unlike the lead head, there is a joint between the lead and the hook. It's a familiar sight to those who practised the dead-fish-handling technique. The very famous "drachko" rig, popularized by the great Albert Drachkovitch, already had the particularity of having an articulated sinker (in the form of pinched buckshot). Over time, however, it was superseded by the simplicity of the leaded head. The arrival of the Cheburashka assembly combines the advantages of an articulated lead and ease of use.

All you have to do is slide the eye of your hook into the pin of the rig and then thread the pin into the slot of the sinker. It couldn't be simpler.

The wide range of weights available means you can cope with most situations. For trout fishing, I use 3 g, 5 g and 7 g sinkers in the vast majority of cases.

For lures, I mainly use shads, but it's perfectly possible to use finess lures, grubs or even creatures.

The original rig uses a Texas hook. But it is also possible to use conventional hooks by picking up streamer hooks from the shelves.

Another string to your bow

If you observe two identical lures swimming, one on a lead head, the other with an articulated rig, you'll see that the swimming action is very different. This does not mean that one is better than the other.

It all depends on the conditions of the day and the mood of the fish. But it adds another string to our bow. Something new that can represent a significant advantage on courses where the fish are very solicited. And on big fish that have become clever over the years.
