The micro spinnerbait is a lure derived from black-bass fishing. Large models have even been developed for muskie or pike. On the other hand, miniature variants are available for salmonids.
What is a micro spinnerbait?
By micro, we mean a lure that is lighter and more compact than the more classic and original spinnerbait designed for black bass. It weighs between 2 and 7 grams. The paddle is small (0 to 2) and the ballast, with its pisciform silhouette, is very compact.

Like its big brother, the micro spinnerbait excels in prospecting fishing with its all-terrain behaviour. It emits very strong visual and vibratory stimuli thanks to the paddle which rotates at the slightest touch.
The ballast, fitted with the hook, constitutes the point of attack which represents the prey, the target. Many anglers have been baffled by the fact that the ballast, which is the point of attack, is dissociated from the paddle which emits the stimuli. For the fish, however, the weight is the "physical" part of what it is attacking. The paddle is merely the transmitter of signals perceived by the fish.
The advantages of micro spinnerbaits
There are plenty of them! First of all, it's a truly versatile lure capable of fishing in a variety of environments, in rivers and lakes. It can fish very deep as well as just below the surface.
By fitting it with a single hook, you can fish very close to the bottom and in obstacles while limiting snags. At the end of the season, it's also a good idea to avoid picking up stringy micro-algae that make the lure ineffective.
It's very attractive and works right from the cast. As the micro spinnerbait sinks, the paddle rotates, emitting vibratory signals and flashes while braking and stabilizing the descent.
As the micro spinnerbait is a very compact and dense lure, it can be cast far and accurately.

It can be animated in several ways: in a simple linear fashion to comb the currents, or in a sawtooth fashion, alternating pulls and flows.
In torrents, it works instantly. The ease with which it can be fished makes it ideal for fishing short spots where even a spinning spoon will be less responsive.
Micro spinnerbait fishes
Salmonids of all sizes are receptive to this type of lure. This is partly due to the fact that it is effective in a wide range of environments. From whitewater salmonids to high-altitude lakes and dams.
Rainbow trout are very receptive, so the micro spinnerbait is one of the most effective lures for them. Wild brown trout are not to be outdone, and it is possible to flush out large fish (over 50 cm) when they are on the hunt, focused on very small fish and fry. Char, and especially brook trout or salmon, can be very receptive during their active phase. Micro spinnerbaits are ideal for finding areas and depths where fish are holding.

Which combo for micro spinnerbait fishing?
Your usual ultra-light outfit will do the trick when looking for trout. The ideal is a parabolic rod that absorbs the strong vibrations emitted by the micro spinnerbait and loads up slightly when the lure pulls through the line.
In rivers, you can fish either upstream or downstream. We'll need to adapt the reel's ratio to the predominant tendency of our fishing. High ratio for upstream fishing (torrents and small rivers) and moderate ratio for lakes, or downstream fishing (especially in large, fast-flowing rivers).
