Chipiron, a juvenile squid, and dwarf cuttlefish, a species close to the common cuttlefish, are excellent baits for meagre. They are placed on a 2-stack rig long enough and with a diameter large enough to support a double of lean fish weighing over 3 kg.
Assembly
The rig consists of 2 medium-sized sturdy nylon stacks: 0.40 to 0.45 mm. They end with a round, wide-mouthed octopus hook in size 3/0. The body of the line must withstand hard casting and fighting with doubled up small fish (1.5 or 2 kg)!

- Stacks: nylon 0.40 to 0.45 mm
- 1 - Line body: nylon 0.50 to 0.60 mm
- 2 and 3 - Stack attachment: tube or bead bonded to cyanolite (2) and round beads (3)
- 4 - Wide-mouthed round hooks n°3/0 with 2 phosphorescent beads
- 5 - Bait: chipiron (small squid) or dwarf cuttlefish
- Grapple lead
Using the assembly
The meagre hunts in shoals on beaches with strong currents. It is therefore necessary to hold the bottom and use a heavy grappling sinker. Cast behind the first waves and wait 30 minutes before reeling in to check the baits.
Putting equipment on the edge for lean meat
Rods in the 4.20 to 5 m range weigh 100 to 300 g. The reel size 5,000 to 20,000 (depending on the brand) is in the 500 to 900 g range and contains at least 200 m of fine nylon in 0.30 to 0.40 mm. Before assembly, we use a coarse nylon (ripped) the length of the rod in 0.50 to 0.60 mm.

Tips for success
The meagre often evolves in busy waters and appreciates whitish prey, especially cuttlefish. A large phosphorescent pearl boosts the visual appeal of our bait.
