Marine wormsâeuros¯
These are the most versatile and effective baits. Among them, sand worms, trawl worms, dures (Korean dures), mourons, bibis, arénicoles, gravettes and demi-dures are particularly recommended. They are suitable for most sparids and flatfish, and can be used to catch many species, including marbled bream and gilthead bream.
Crabsâeuros¯
Particularly popular with sea bream, they can also attract sea bream and wolffish. Live crab or lump crab is effective, especially when fishing along the edges.

Cuttlefish and squid¯
Cuttlefish or squid strips hold very well on the hook, attracting big fish like wolffish or conger eels, especially at night.
The different shellfishâeuros¯
Cockles, razor clams and mussels are also good baits, especially for sparids and other rock fish.
Sardines and mackerelâeuros¯
Used in pieces (florets) or whole, sardines and mackerel are attractive to many species of fish.
Live shrimpâeuros¯
Highly effective for wolffish and other species, it's always worth using live bait such as shrimp, especially on fine rigs in summer.

A few tips
- Vary your baits during the session to find what attracts the most fish on the day.
- Choose fine worms (sand worms, half worms) for long-distance casting and the clear waters typical of the Mediterranean.
- Sometimes, using several baits on the same rig can increase your chances of capture.
- Bait freshness and presentation are crucial to success in summer surfcasting. For better bait holding, consider using binding wire.
- In summer, sunrise and sunset are ideal times for surfcasting, as are nights on beaches frequented at this time of year.
- Take advantage of sea breezes to go surfcasting. These are great times to go surfcasting in summer.
