A 2nd round of preselections again full of mullets and a small disappointment

Report of the second day of the surfcasting pre-selection, a competition that gathers the 56 best anglers of France who try to win their place for the World Championship 2022.

The second round of the surfcasting pre-selections took place on Tuesday, June 9 from 5 to 9 pm. As for the four rounds, the 16 senior women competed on the beach of Marseillan West while the 40 senior men met on the beach of Marseillan East. These four hours were very similar to the first round: mullet, mullet, mullet and a few small king bream.

My location

The women are divided into two sectors named -E and -F. So there are 6 women on one side and 6 on the other. If I started the competition in sector -F, I was today in sector -E which was the least fishy yesterday. When I arrived at my chosen spot, E45, I recognized the landforms on which I had trained. I have in front of me two sandbanks. A first one at 50/60 meters then a hole before the second sandbank at 150 meters. This time, I have enough water in the hole before the first sandbank that I am tempted to explore this area. So I set up my three rods: a sensitive one with a hybrid tip for light fishing from the shore, a rod with a tubular tip and a lot of power reserve for my long distance fishing and a third rod, more versatile, which is powerful enough to allow me to make nice casts while being soft enough so that my baits don't tear off.

Today, I'm fishing next to Pauline Bellicourt, a very good angler who knows how to fish far when needed. It will be interesting to watch!

The course of the round

5pm rings, it's the start of the race. Everybody starts in the first 70 meters and there is no doubt: everybody is looking for the mule. We were fishing two hours later than the day before. The mule likes the heat and is present during the day but leaves the beach at night. Thus, we expected to fish them on the first 2 or 3 hours of the day only. It was thus necessary not to miss itself of entry and to find them quickly! And helloâ?¦ This round starts in the greatest of calmâ?¦ I vary my fishing distances: between the two sandbanks, in front of the first sandbank, on the sandbanks, etc. For an hour, nothing moves so I decide to try in the distance, as the day before even if my position was different. I prepare a 2-stack rig to lighten my line and gain precious meters. My distance rod is also ready behind me so that I can quickly make the change after I have reeled in my line. In the distance, I see Cindy, my neighbor from the day before who had already pulled off a great catch, pulling out a mullet double afterès casting off¦. Ok, so that would be a good option, we have to go and see what happens there. One throw, two throws and then three and my yarn is relaxing. I take it in hand, it's hanging! And I fail a 37cm mullet. It's not bad, it puts me back in the race. Then again, the emptiness during a good moment, until I fish a second one of 37cm. Finally, we saw some mullets out until the last half hour of the day.

The ranking

In my sector, it is easy to deduce that Cindy Bonvoisin with 6 mullets, wins the sector -E while her mother exploded the counters in the sector -F with 10 mullets! The biggest result of the competition so far with notably a 46cm specimen! Coming back to the -E, after Cindy, four anglers have 3 mullets so the difference will be in the size of these. For my part, I finish 6th of my sector and thus 11th of the round. The classification will be published in the night and will confirm what I had calculated, I slip to the 5th place. However, we can see that in terms of points, it's very tight and everything is still possible for everyone! My morale is still very good because everything is still open. I played my joker today, I'll have to do my best for the last two rounds! Today, the round will take place from 5pm to 9pm.
