But where are the fish in this 3rd round of the surfcasting pre-selections?

Report of the third round of the surfcasting preselections which will decide the French men's and women's teams for the 2022 World Championship. We will meet on the beaches of Marseillan on Thursday, June 11th from 5pm to 9pm.

A sleeve with very few fish

How long they were these four hours of sleeveâeuros¦ Indeed, whether it is with women or men (who do not fish on the same beaches), each fish is precious! Each mullet or even each live one has its importance! Rare are the "big fishes". We do not find this effect of schools where when we fish a mullet, we find others on the same area at the next stroke of the rod. Thus, you must constantly prospect, animate your line to bring your baits on a maximum of ground while taking care to let your line fish long enough.

Reliefâeuros¦

I stay under the hood for two long hours and the fishing is not much better for my competitors. Where are the fish?! Since the beginning of the competition, I fish them in the distance but during the training sessions, I found some between the two sandbanks. So I concentrate on these two areas and I watch what happens around me to be able to react quickly in case of passage of schools of mullet. But really, the time is getting longâeuros¦ And finally, my scion is shyly waving. I put a 36cm mullet in the dry ! Phew! Considering the little fish, I can be reassured. That's done ! On my right, Claudine Gambier who won the round of the day before with 10 mullets, finds none todayâeuros¦ That is to say the cruelty of fishing sometimes and the alas of the draw which imposes us fishing posts which are more or less adapted to us and which are more or less fishy.

âeuros¦ And vigilance

I am reassured but I remain very vigilant, I am wary of the remontada. It is enough that a fisherwoman finds a fishy zone and exploits it to quickly overtake me in the ranking. If my friend Anais Everard who fishes at the end of the sector is already reassured with 2 big mullets (39 and 40cm), I don't have much luck with mine so I continue to track the mullet until the last rod stroke but nothing happens. At the end of the run, I decide to opt for distance fishing and I optimize every detail to gain precious meters and to send my line well behind the second sand bank. I take out my 14/100 reel spool, a single-stack leader clipped on my sinker with an IMPS attachment and a 125g missile sinker (the weight of sinker that is optimal for casting). My rig is equipped with a light floating bead and I carefully thread three half-hard. My neighbor on the left, Peggy Durand (vice-champion of France) has also chosen to prospect only in the open sea and it pays off because she brings up two mullets.

Balance sheet

Finally, I will not reel in any other fish. The end gong rings and I am now 3rd in the sector and 5th in the day's race. I am satisfied, I know that it will allow me to go up in the general classification. Another result of the day: the fishers who started the competition the least well are the ones who are at the top of the ranking of the day. A nice proof of determination. I like this state of mind! If I am reassured by this result of the day, I do not forget that I already played my joker the day before and that I will have to ensure in the last round. Besides, with this shuffling of the ranking today, we can expect a lot of upsets until the very end of the competition!
