The surfcasting pre-selections, a competition that is being prepared!

The surfcasting pre-selection competition will start in Marseillan! The first round will take place tonight. In 4 days, we will know the names of the members of the French team 2022.

The preparation

56 competitors will compete during 4 days in the hope of being among the 6 best of their category (senior men and senior women). They come from Hauts de France, Normandy, Brittany, Pays de Loire, Poitou-Charentes, Aquitaine, Occitania and PACA. And all of them will have to adapt to the fishing conditions and the Mediterranean. So it is not improvised! And the preparation begins as soon as the confirmation of the maintenance of the competition is a little more than a month before the D-day. After a year without competition, it is first necessary to sort out the equipment, to list what is missing for fishing in the Mediterranean and to order what is necessary. Then comes the renewal of the reels with (very) fine diameters. We then list the different types of mounts to be mounted and then we make them. And finally, just before the big departure, we fill our backpack and the scabbard with our fetish equipment and our essentials. Without forgetting the numerous packages of accessories and nylon spools to continue working and adapting the mounts after each run.

The planned fishing

The beaches of Marseillan are exclusively sandy, allowing for fine fishing: fine nylon on the mounts and on the reel, small hooks, light lead, etc. This discretion is also necessary to tempt summer fish: mullet, sea bream, marbled and other sparidae. The organization also lists among the potential species: garfish, bogue, wolffish, pageot, live, conger eel and red mullet. With this knowledge, and thanks to previous competitions that have taken place in Marseillan, fishermen can prepare themselves accordingly before checking the fishability and effectiveness of their preparation once at the water's edge, a few days before the start of the competition.

Training sessions

Personally, I arrived 3 days before the competition and I had the opportunity to do 3 training sessions. I was eager to put my first rigs in the water! Especially since the fishing was good a few days before my arrival, as the pictures of the locals attested. And finallyâeuros¦ The wind changes and the water is still very cold and disrupts the plans and disappoint our expectations. We have to adapt. For the moment, we caught some mullet, rare sea breams and we had echo of other species in small quantity. Then the doubt settles, the pile of "au-cas-où" mounts grows in order to be ready in all circumstances.
