Surfcasting for flounder with a two-stack rig

The sole is a flat fish with a small mouth which is caught by surfcasting. Fussy, it is not sought after with any kind of rig. It is necessary to use finesse to foil its distrust and opt for small hooks.

The sole is a noble fish very appreciated for its culinary value and the difficulty to catch it. Its catch from a dam or a beach is a great satisfaction. Here is a fine montage dedicated to divert its distrust.

Mounting to fish with nereid or half-hard

The small mouth of the sole implies the use of small hooks of size n°8 to 4 ideally, until n°2. Small baits are needed: the mudbait or half-hard is a very good bait to look for this flatfish. The stacks are made of fluorocarbon with a diameter of 0.30 to 0.40 mm and are held to the line body by perforated beads.

Use of the two long stack assembly

The sole is a difficult fish, rarely caught near the edge. It is thus necessary to lengthen the casts, by accompanying well the gesture not to destroy the fragile nereids with the cast. We wait 15 to 20 minutes before reeling in the lines to control the bait.

Equipment for surfcasting sole fishing

The rod of 4 to 4.50 m must have a weight of 80 to 200 grams. The reel size 5 000 to 20 000 (depending on the brand) is in the range of 500 to 900 grams and contains at least 200 meters of fine nylon in 0.24 to 0.35 mm. Before assembling the reel, we will take care to add a large nylon (ripped) of the length of the rod in 0.45 to 0.60 mm, to be able to support the casts without problems.

A tip to increase results

Particularly active at night, the sole has a poor sight and feeds thanks to its sense of smell. It is possible to recover the mount of a few meters every 3 minutes to beat more ground and thus improve its results.
