Floating surfcasting beads, a major asset for success

There is a small accessory that is very useful for surfcasting rigs, the floating beads. Discover the advantages of floating beads and the different ways to use them during your fishing sessions.

Significant advantages

Floating beads have various advantages: attractiveness, buoyancy, visibility.

The first advantage of this floating pearl is that it will last longer when it comes off the bottom. It will not be nibbled by shrimps and crabs that you can find on the bottom of the sand. You'll have a better chance of catching fish.

Another advantage of this floating pearl is that it allows you to fish for different species of fish. By taking your bait off the bottom, you will at the same time explore the whole water column which allows you to go and find different species of fish and this advantage is not negligible.

The floating pearl allows you to have the added benefit of attractiveness. Like a classic pearl, floating pearls are often either white or fluorescent in color, which help attract fish. White and fluorescent beads are best used during the day and phosphorescent beads are best used in the evening or at night. You will charge the phosphorescent ones with energy with a UV lamp or a classic lamp, which will allow you to increase their attractiveness during your night fishing.

Mounting the floating bead

Mounting a floating pearl on your rig is quite simple. To mount a floating pearl on my surfcasting leader, I first mount a hook on my line to make my stack.

Je passe l'extrémité de mon empile dans le petit œillet
I pass the end of my stack through the small eyelet

I'm going to take the end of my stack and put it through the little eyelet you have on the floating bead.

Je tire doucement sur la perle flottante pour la faire venir sur mon empile
I pull gently on the floating pearl to make it come on my stack

Then I'll gently pull the floating bead to get it to come on my stack. And since you have a built-in flop stop, I will then slide my floating bead close to my hook.

Afterwards, when I put on my worm, I will adjust my floating bead to the desired distance. In general, what I advise you to do is to put it slightly on your bait.

The bead is well mounted. You will just have to mount your stack on the body of the leader of your rig.

In the range I use, there are two sizes of beads. The 15 millimeters and the 12 millimeters in 4 colors: the yellow fluorescent pearl, the white, the phosphorescent and the red fluorescent.

The trick

I recommend using the 12 millimeter for small baits. For larger baits, to allow them to be unstuck, use the 15 millimeter which will increase the buoyancy of our bait.

Within the range that I use, the pearl that I like the most is the 12 millimeters of red color with which I made very good results during this year.

You will find all the colors, blue, green, pink, orange, brown, in short a real color chart.
