This is the 12th season of this now cult program which has seen the emergence of fishing personalities such as Pierre Monjarret among the lure anglers or Niklhaus Bauer (whom we met a while ago alongside Frederic Jullian in the last season of Perch Pro), as far as fly fishers are concerned.
Concept
As a reminder, Fly Vs Jerk is a sport fishing competition format filmed over 3 consecutive days and recorded in 6 episodes, pitting pairs of lure fishermen against fly fishermen. The target species is the pike, exclusively.
Awarding of points
3 points will be awarded each day:
- The point of the number
- The point of the biggest fish
- The point of the longest Top 5 (addition of the length of the 5 biggest fish of each team)
The mesh size for pike is set at 75 cm for a fish to be counted in the Top 5.
For this new season we find classic figures of this program as Niklaus Bauer and Markus Tandefelt or Stefan Trumsted and Pierre Monjarret, but this one is also marked by the arrival of new faces. Let's discover the teams.
Vision Team
Niklaus Bauer and Markus Tandefelt are among the regulars of Fly Vs Jerk. For this new edition they decided to fish a lake in the south of Finland and to bet everything on catching a big pike. Even if they had initially planned to fish in Sweden and that climatic reasons forced them to fall back on Finland, this lake does not really represent a plan B since it is on this one that Markus Tandefelt had caught a fish of 12 kg offering the victory to the team that he formed with Pasi Tapponen 3 years ago for the Fly Vs Jerk 9âeuros¦ This first half-day will answer their expectations since if they struggle to catch a fish they will finally succeed in putting in the dry a pike accusing 1,22m on the height!
Team XL-Marin/Mercury
Pasi Tapponen is teaming up with Lars Litzel this season and the team will be mixing both fly and lure approaches for the occasion. The pair is also fishing in Finland on the archipelago located in the middle of the country.
CWC Team
This is the strongest team in the history of Fly Vs Jerk as the pairing of Stefan Trumstedt and Pierre Monjarret has achieved no less than 5 victories in the history of this competition. Their victory in 2020 will be remembered as they started the competition with a loaner boat without a front electric motor and therefore without an anchoring system (among other things) and ended it with the catch of a 1.27m pike! The CWC team will fish exactly the same environment as the XL-Marin/Mercury team. Their strategy: numbers. Arrived on the first spot of the day, Stephan and Pierre caught 24 fishes at the end of the first hour of fishing and 50 after 2 hours! The "special number" weapon: Pig Shad Jr. Spotted Bullhead !
Raymarine/Daiwa Team
The Raymarine/Daiwa team composed of Torbjörn "Buster" Odén, great friend of Stefan Trumstedt and inventor of the famous Buster Jerk, no less, and Pär Lindberg is one of the most experienced of the tournament. The pair will also aim for numbers on shallow areas for this early competition. To do this, they need to cover ground quickly. Long casts associated with the use of noisy and flashy jerkbaits calling fish from afar, especially in cold water, find here an adequate context of application. A first mesh fish comes quickly to validate this approach. The duet multiplies the catches but validates only 2 fish meshed at the end of one hour.
Team Leech/Gator
For their fourth participation in Fly Vs Jerk, the Leech/Gator team composed of Markus Maliszewski and Alexander Lexén will as usual target the big fish in the Swedish waters. Their goal: 1 big fish per day. Their strategy: to quickly fish the shallows where the fish regularly go back and forth to feed. The first few hours do not go exactly as the duo imagined and if several fish go up to the boat, none of them are caught¦
Headbanger Lures Team
Markus Teilus and Emanuel Swärd are newcomers in this competition. The duo will be fishing in the north of Sweden on a sector with large pikes in quantity. Only hitch, a particularly harsh weatherâeuros¦ As a result, the duo is betting on a slow fishing and in these conditions the voluminous grubs are a met of choice! Unfortunately the pikes do not hear it this way, so much so that the duo decides to take the boat out and to change spot. Same observation, ice everywhere preventing to fish efficientlyâeuros¦
Team Sporting
The duo composed of Rikard Bergström and Stephan Nielsen are newcomers to the program but are not unknowns, especially Stephan Nielsen who is already known to the French public for his participations and victories in the Perch Pro, will be fishing a large lake in southern Sweden and will target big fish. A difficult start to the competition for the team as well, but a first fish, admittedly modest, reboosts the troops.
Jiggar.nu Team
3rd participation in Fly Vs Jerk for Björn Böström and Jakob Hank, who finished 2nd last season, behind CWC. The two competitors decided to fish in Sweden. After 2 hours of unsuccessful fishing, ice and cold simply prevented them from fishing, Björn and Jakob decided to leave the lake for a river. No useless waste of time. A change quickly rewarded by the catch of 3 fish, meshed what is more!
Review of the points
CWC leads by a large margin on the number point and at the same time pockets the Top 5 point. The third attributable point, the Big Fish, goes to the Vision team thanks to the 1.22 m and 9.6 kg fish caught by Markus Tandefelt. Pierre Monjarret and Stefan Trumstedt set the tone!
