A recent phenomenon
If this phenomenon already exists since a few decades in the USA, it was still something almost unknown in France ten years ago and reserved to a few rare initiates. But an enthusiast, Goulven Dolle, firmly believing in this concept and wanting to make it really emerge in France, created 8 years ago, an online sales site allowing to get equipped, with a forum and tutorials.
Today, rodbuilding is no longer something confidential and if many are interested in it or have already taken the step, few fishermen still ignore what it is.
Few ingredients for a simple recipe!
However, a few preconceived notions need to be cleared up:
- No we don't make our own fishing rod!
- No, you don't have to be a DIY whiz!
- And no, it's not complicated!
So the rodbuilidng is not to make the tool of your passion, but simply to assemble the various elements that constitute a fishing rod, namely :

Basic, even childish operations...
Being a rodbuilder today means being able to cut with a cutter, sand with sandpaper, glue, wind wire and apply varnish (ask your kids and wife if this is a complicated manual activity!) Even if you don't know how to assemble a Swedish furniture kit, you'll be able to assemble a fishing rod because the activity is so simple!
It doesn't take much to take the plunge!
Ok, but why not take a rod from the market? On the one hand, to have a product that corresponds perfectly to your expectations and your desires on the aesthetic and technical levels. And also to prolong the pleasure of fishing at home. Practicing rodbuilding means bringing fishing from the shore to your living room.
Getting started requires a small, inexpensive tool kit that you can even share with friends. We will detail in future articles, the list of this kit as well as the various elements constituting a cane.
The hardest thing now is to get rid of all your preconceptions and take the plunge!
