Open Labrax de Cherbourg 2026: competition and conviviality

The second edition of the Open Labrax de Cherbourg 2026 was held on May 16 and 17, 2026 at Chantereyne harbor, and was a great success.

No-kill fishing

This is a no-kill sea bass fishing competition, where fish are kept alive on board, measured and then released.
The scoring principle is simple: each centimetre above the legal size of 42 cm earns one point, and the total number of points awarded determines the final ranking.

Organization and framework

The event is supported by Cherbourg Action Pêche Plaisance and Cherbourg Plaisance / Cotentin Nautic. The fishing zone was limited to around 3 nautical miles offshore, which kept the competition close to the harbour, while still remaining highly technical.

Atmosphere and sporting interest

The Open Labrax is an event that combines performance, conviviality and responsible fishing. For competitors, it's all about the choice of spots, lures and animations, with a strong dependence on weather conditions.

Congratulations to the 2026 Cherbourg Labrax Open champions, Nicolas Jeanne and Yoann Houssais! Huge congratulations also to all the competitors.

Our great respect goes to the organizers, in particular Bruno Fiant and his entire team, for the quality of this event, which has become a must-see in just two editions.

Also worth noting is the Open Kids event: 75 young participants, over 40 fish caught in a beautiful atmosphere!
