Crystal clear water and an archipelago

The Glénan archipelago is a singular area in the Breton landscape. Not only its waters are particularly clear and give you the feeling of being in Corsica, but it is also an archipelago composed by definition of countless islets forming a zone protected from the swell. The particularly uneven bathymetry and the succession of sandy areas, rocks and seaweed patches make it an area rich in food and therefore in fish.

The accesses

Obviously, the Glénan are only accessible to fishermen on board. The most direct access to the archipelago is from Concarneau, Port La Fôret, Moëlan-sur-Mer or Benodet. It takes about 30 minutes of sailing to reach the House.

Find the activity

Contrary to the majority of the Breton spots, the Glénan archipelago is located in an area where the current is particularly weak. A drifting knot is considered important when fishing this area. Nevertheless, taking into account the tidal moments, the current and its strength remain important in the search for fish. The bass have a circuit that is often conditioned by the juice.

But the key to successful fishing is to observe the environment for signs of activity and locate predators.

The fish present

The Glénan archipelago is a particularly good area for fishing, and forage, in particular sand eels and pelagic fish such as mackerel and sardines, are numerous and concentrate many predators. Of course, you will find sea bass, but also pollack and sparidae. In summer, encounters with large schools of dolphins are common, even daily, and the lord of the sea, the bluefin tuna, lives there!

Like Sein or Ouessant, the Glénan archipelago is an area where you can track all the marine fish!

The bar at the top of the list

The sea bass is obviously a target of choice for the fishermen pacing the Glénan. They are numerous, sometimes in very compact shoal and that is why it takes place there every year a particularly renowned Open in June. On this occasion, 120 to 130 teams compete against each other and they catch about 500 mesh bass in 2 days.

3 rooms 3 atmospheres

The archipelago is a very varied fishing area with three distinct profiles allowing to practice all the different approaches of bass fishing. The aficionados of finesse will be able to cast 3 grams leaded heads with 4 inches lures while others will animate 18 centimeters shads leaded in 50 grams.

Of course, especially in these clear waters, hard lures are popular and playful surface or swimfish fishing is extremely profitable. It would be a shame to miss out.
