The rod for fishing with insects
A UL spinning rod with a length of 2.2 or 2.3 metres is best suited for fishing with small floating lures. It allows you to cast light lures of between 0.5 and 5 grams with good accuracy, while depositing them discreetly on the surface.
Its action should preferably be supple, to propel light lures easily, acting as a thruster, rather like a fly rod, whereas a rod that is too stiff will be less effective.

For more experienced anglers, it's also possible to fish with a BFS (bait finess system) casting set, although spinning is still more effective for this technique.
The reel
To balance this light spinning rod, a reel, also of the spinning type, in sizes 1500 to 2500 is well proportioned. Given the rod's low weight, you'll want a lightweight model. As for its ratio, since we fish slowly, it doesn't matter.
The wire
There are two choices when it comes to choosing the right line body for your reel.
The first possibility is to use very fine braid, between 6 and 8/100. The other is to use 18 or 20/100 nylon. Nylon allows you to do away with the need for a leader by connecting the lure directly to it. The result is a rig with maximum strength and discretion!

If you choose to use a braid, you'll need a nylon or fluorocarbon leader in 18 or 20/100, 60 to 120 centimetres long, to keep the braid out of the fish's sight.
Polarized glasses
Finally, the last accessory not to be forgotten is a pair of polarized glasses. As most fishing is done by sight, they are indispensable. They enable you to locate fish from a distance and see exactly where you need to cast your lure.
Just add a few lures and a pair of pliers and you're ready to go.
