Chod Rig, carp fishing leader for floating baits

Some carp fishing leaders are bait-specific. Such is the case with the Chod Rig, a special Pop-Up leader. Let's learn how to make it.

Some leaders, like the D-Rig, are more focused on dense or balanced baits. Others, like the Slip D-Rig, are more versatile, allowing you to present dense, balanced or floating bait with the same rig. The Chod Rig is a leader specially designed for floating baits such as Pop-Ups.

What is a Chod Rig?

The Chod Rig is a leader that allows you to present a floating bait (free on a fluorocarbon loop) a few centimetres from the bottom. It is made from fluorocarbon like Shadow. To be fully effective, it must be used with a helicopter-type rig. This allows you to adjust the distance between the lead and the chod. Highly effective against silt, weed beds, etc. It's also the perfect combination for reaching long distances without worrying about tangles. Made from fluorocarbon, it also has the advantage of being very discreet.

What you need to make a Chod Rig

To be adapted according to conditions.

  • Chod Power Hooks n. 6
  • Shadow in diameter 40
  • A micro ring swivel
  • Heli-Chod swivel
  • A pair of scissors
  • A lighter
  • A knot puller

Production stages

1) Cut 20 cm of Shadow 40

2) Pass the fluorocarbon from the inside to the outside, leaving about 5 cm overlap, then tie a knot without a knot, passing through the eyelet from the outside to the inside.

3) Pass the micro swivel through the 5 cm excess.

4) Iron from outside to inside, forming the loop. Trim excess once the loop is set, then burn for a secure hold.

5) Determine the length of the leader then add the Heli Chod swivel using the fluoro tip (see previous article).

Tip: in order to change your Chod Rig at will, you can finish off your leader with a Universal Clip which will be fitted to the Heli Chod swivel of your helicopter rig. To finalize the presentation, you can model lead paste on this Universal Clip. This way, there's no risk of the Pop-Up taking off more than the length of the Chod Rig.

For this leader to be fully effective, it must be connected to a helicopter rig renowned for reaching great distances but also for coping with weed beds, silt... The combination of the two will ensure that your rig is always fishable. I invite you to reread my article on helicopter assembly to perfect your approach to the Chod Rig and find further tips.
