The stickbait is certainly the most exciting lure to use. This hard lure is animated on the surface by regular sawing strokes that require constant visual monitoring.
While you are focused on the animation of the lure and its movements, a bass splits the surface of the water to snatch the lure. Adrenaline guaranteed!
Stickbait : what is it ?
Stickbait is an English term that translates to "stick lure". It is a lure with an elongated cylindrical shape that sometimes tapers towards the tail without any artifice or caudal appendage.
When stopped, it is held either horizontally, obliquely or even vertically with the head coming out of the water, depending on the positioning of its internal weights. A fine stickbait can sometimes be called a pencil bait, meaning "pencil lure".
Animation: a gesture to learn
The lure is usually retrieved in a zig-zag pattern, moving horizontally from right to left. This basic animation, used in 95% of the cases, is called the "walking-the-dog".
The stickbait is retrieved by regular strokes of the rod at a rate of 2 per second to start, which makes the lure go from left to right successively. To attract the biggest bass, animate slowly and after each pull of the rod, return the hand well in the other direction to allow the lure to continue its trajectory without tension of the line. This last animation is also called "long slide", since the gaps of the zig-zag swimming are longer.
Sensations guaranteed
This fishing is very exciting: the handling is captivating and the attacks of the bass on the surface âeuros not necessarily food âeuros are aggressive. Sometimes, the bass attacks at 50 cm from the lure as if to make it flee. Sometimes, the attack is food and very targeted. Each attack gives the impression of having chosen the right lure, but also to have handled it well.
When you strike, wait for a little tension and then take the hand by a large strike, but not too dry under penalty and unhook the lure.
